Summer is the best time of the year for a road trip. It doesn’t matter if you’re heading for the beach, the mountains or somewhere in between, you’re sure to enjoy your travels.
Unfortunately, there are a variety of dangers lurking on the road, all of which you need to account for.
Here are a few tips you can follow to stay safe on your summer road trip:
- Avoid distractions: It doesn’t matter if you’re traveling alone or with your family, distractions are everywhere. For example, you may be tempted to answer your phone or send a text message. Doing so increases the risk of an accident.
- Wear your seat belt: Not only is it against the law to drive without a seat belt, but it also increases the risk of serious injury or death in the event of a crash.
- Inspect your vehicle before leaving home: From the tires to the windshield wipers to the level of your fluids, a good once-over will go a long way in giving you the confidence you need to hit the road. If you find a problem, such as bald tires, take care of it before leaving home.
Even if you’re the safest driver on the road, it doesn’t mean that others will take the same cautious approach. There will always be people who break the law, such as by speeding, texting and driving or driving under the influence of alcohol.
If you’re injured in a motor vehicle accident on your road trip, call 911 and visit a local hospital for treatment. From there, you can file an insurance claim and seek the compensation you deserve from the negligent party.
