Watch out for aggressive drivers

by | Feb 7, 2019 | Car Accidents |

An aggressive driver can seemingly pop up out of nowhere. One second, you’re driving along, and everything is going as planned. But the next, an aggressive driver is in close proximity to your vehicle, and you have concerns about your safety.

The best thing you can do if you spot an aggressive driver is keep your distance. Even if it’s an inconvenience, you’re better off moving out of the way and letting this person through.

There are many forms of aggressive driving, with some of the most common including:

  • Excessive speeding
  • Speeding in heavy traffic
  • Tailgating
  • Running a red light or stop sign
  • Illegal passing
  • Changing lanes without using a turn signal
  • Cutting off another driver
  • Blocking a car that is attempting to change lanes or pass
  • Weaving from one lane to the next, such as in rush-hour traffic

If you find that another driver is doing one or more of these things, here are some steps to take:

  • Keep your distance
  • Don’t make eye contact, as it may anger the person
  • Keep your focus on what you need to do to remain safe
  • Call 911 if the person has taken their aggression too far

Unfortunately, an aggressive driver could cause an accident. If this happens, the last thing you want to do is be part of a confrontation. Once you check yourself for injuries, call 911 so that police arrive at the scene to take control.

After receiving treatment, you may learn that you’ve suffered a serious injury. Rather than let the driver off the hook, look into the many ways you can hold the person responsible for causing the crash.
