Common causes of delivery truck-car accidents

by | Jan 16, 2019 | Truck Accidents |

It doesn’t matter where you live or how much time you spend on the road, you’re sure to come across one delivery truck after the next. This is due in large part to the uptick of consumers buying more and more products online.

With more delivery trucks on the road than ever before, the chance of an accident is much greater. Here are some of the most common causes of delivery truck accidents:

  • Blind spots: If you drive in a trucker’s blind spot, such as too close to the rear of their vehicle, they may not know you are there.
  • Lack of maintenance: Just the same as tractor-trailers, delivery trucks require regular maintenance to maintain peak performance.
  • Improper loading: Delivery trucks are often carrying large loads, which can increase the chance of tipping under certain conditions.
  • Reckless driving: Driving a delivery truck is a challenge, thanks in large part to the size and cargo. All forms of reckless driving increase the risk of a crash. This can include excessive speeding on the highway, illegal passing on a two-lane road or running a stop light in a crowded city.

These are among the most common causes of car-delivery truck accidents, but there are other risks that often come into play. As a driver of a passenger vehicle, take special caution when driving in close proximity to delivery trucks.

In the event of an accident, immediately take these three steps:

  • Move to safety
  • Call 911 to request an ambulance
  • Receive medical treatment

Doing these things will allow you to eventually file an insurance claim and seek damages from the negligent party, which could include the driver and/or delivery company.
