In Montana, we all know that cars are supposed to move to the side of the road when an emergency vehicle is approaching with its lights and sirens on. While these vehicles certainly take ownership of the road in emergency situations, their drivers are still responsible for being safe. They should travel at a relatively safe speed and always move carefully through intersections — especially when they have to run a red light. When drivers aren’t safe, serious car accidents can occur.

On Monday afternoon, an ambulance was driving down a street in Helena with its lights and sirens on when it came upon an intersection. At the same time, a car pulled out into the intersection and the vehicles collided.

The ambulance hit the car’s driver side, and the impact forced the car into a nearby traffic light pole. It is not clear at this time if the car’s driver didn’t see the ambulance or if the ambulance driver did not move through the intersection safely. Unfortunately, three people who were in the car were injured in the crash.

When a serious accident like this occurs, it is important for any injured victims to understand their options.
