A high school student from North Dakota is dead after an accident with a man from Montana who allegedly blew through a stop sign.

According to reports, the crash occurred on April 7, a Sunday. The man from Montana, who is 27 years old, was driving a 2011 GMC Sierra pickup truck on County Road 21, heading toward the intersection with ND highway 1804. When he reached the intersection, he was supposed to stop at the sign, but he apparently drove right through it and slammed into a 2015 Jeep Wrangler that was passing legally through the intersection.

A 16-year-old boy was driving that Wrangler, per the North Dakota Highway Patrol. He had a 16-year-old girl in the vehicle with him. The impact was so bad that the Jeep was knocked right off the road, with extensive damage that meant emergency crews had to extract both teenagers from the wreckage.

After they got them out, they took both of them to Trinity Hospital. While the driver survived, the young girl passed away from her injuries.

The girl went to Williston High School. Knowing the tragic death may be hard for her friends and fellow students, the school brought in counselors to help them. They were there on Sunday and Monday.

“We’re going to continue that [on Tuesday] and see how people are doing,” the principal noted.

A crash like this really shows how fast everything can change. In the blink of an eye, people can find themselves in the hospital or missing their loved ones. It’s important for those involved in these accidents to know what legal options they have.
