Successfully Helping Injured People in Montana for More Than 40 Years

Just the same as every other state, there are drinking and driving accidents that injure or kill people in Montana every year. While local authorities do their best to fight against this, there is no way to put an entire end to those who drive under the influence of alcohol.

In 2003, the state of Montana took a big step forward by implementing a .08 blood alcohol content per se law. While this was important on many levels, lawmakers have not done much since then to help reduce this crime or to deal with repeat offenders.

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, in 2012 there were 89 drunk driving fatalities in the state, which makes up 44 percent of all traffic deaths. This is a large number, especially when you consider the fact that it is 8.5 percent higher than it was in 2011.

At this time, those who are convicted of drunk driving can be ordered by the court to equip their vehicle with an ignition interlock device for a specific period of time. While this can help ensure that the person does not drive his or her vehicle again after one has been drinking, the law is not as strict as some other states, in which all offenders are faced with this punishment.

In the event that somebody drinks and drives, the chance of a car accident is much greater. Not only can the impaired party be injured, the same holds true for other drivers on the road. If this happens, the injured party may wish to consult with an attorney to learn more about one’s legal rights.
