Parking lot accidents are fairly common. Typically, a driver accidentally hits another car. Every once in a while, a driver may even accidentally hit another person. The majority of these accidents are considered minor and result in mostly cosmetic damage to the vehicles. However, a parking lot accident last August proved deadly for one Montana man, and a wrongful death claim may be his family’s best option in coping with the situation.

Reports indicate that the victim, a local business owner, was hit and killed while in a veteran’s club parking lot. Additionally, his wife and another individual were injured in the accident. The driver of the pickup truck that hit them was arrested by the local Sheriff’s department.

The case was later turned over to state authorities. According to these authorities, criminal charges against the driver were dropped because additional time was needed to investigate the situation. The investigation is still ongoing, and criminal charges may still be filed against the pickup truck driver.

Regardless of the outcome of any criminal charges the driver may face, the victim’s family still must cope with his untimely death. The gentleman who was killed was a 36-year-old man who left behind a grieving wife. She now is faced with his funeral expenses as well as adjusting to the loss of his current and future business income. Montana families who lose a loved one as a result of another person’s negligent actions may find that a civil claim for wrongful death may assist in their recovery.
